Web 2.0 should be “profitable online businesses”.

spiffy update, isn't it?

lol, i used a spare 5 mins to create somehting simple with layer masks, gradients, and rounded rectangles which kinda compliments the rest of the elements (the dotsm and navy blue).

here is a short interesting post by another blogger, and while i don't think he wraps up the subject well, he poses an interesting question of two.

http://www.ensight.org/archives/2006/08/21/my-definition-of-web-20/

Web 2.0 should be “profitable online businesses”.

i heartily agree.

but i would also say the very few online businesses will ever be profitable because of today's popular "give use our product away for free, and make it up on advertising approach." A business should have a better defined buissiness plan then to just create traffic with a free product and then make a couple cents here and there with adsense. If you look back at evheads post on the ten rules for startups, he says that a startup should design something that users will have to pay for. YouTube sometimes beats google in terms of hits, yet google is far more profitable because they have their main business model, advestising, even though it was their search product that made them money in the first place. I agree, though this isn't the only option.

enjoy the new graphics!

a great article that is specifically in context of pitching your idea to a venture capital firm, but was interesting nonetheless.

http://blog.guykawasaki.com/2006/10/how_to_change_t.html

I apologise to me readers also. For the first time in awhile, i'm not slaving over work, so i have actually had some time to do other things (draw, read, spend some time on YouTube, and relax).
But that has caused me to neglect this.

Btw, i have been looking at some javascript lately. If you are interested in learning about web apps, and interactivity (i know some of my readers are....) then go google the term "AJAX"....

Why? And what is it?

in case you didn't know, AJAX is what powers digg, blogger, and most other
web 2.0 sites.

Tell me more...?

it's basically a melding of javascript and xml. basically, through javascript, it allows data to be sent between the user/client, to the database(the xml part), enabling interactivity...... So for example, digg lets users through ajax, communicate to their servers and post stories and post votes and comments to their databases, and then more xml to javascript communication allows them to display the most popular files in their database and display them on their homepage. I bet what i'm saying is common knowledge to many people, but just wanted to you guys know.

I've promised one of my most dedicated readers (you know who you are), that i would post this, so even though it took awhile, here it is.......

This is the definitive article on start-ups. I like it alot, it makes sense, and above all, it actually written by someone with experience.

I hate reading articles by non-buissiness/start-up people on how to start a start-up. Give me the voice of experience!

This is the same guy who wrote the other list of rules, Evan Williams, the guy behind Blogger, Odeo, Twittr, and other famous cool web stuff! And since it's rather long (10 pages to print) i won't post it here.

http://www.evhead.com/2005/11/ten-rules-for-web-startups.asp

This is probably the best article you'll read today. Enjoy it!

Utada Hikaru - Passion

this vid has some nice electrinica, and great animation. Lol reminds me of fantasia. I don't have a translation, and don't feel like doing one (it's gonna be alot of work and i'm not really good enough at japanese yt) so just enjoy it in the original form. granted it's very weird, but the animations are just awesome.
